Your 2-minute stretch break for better email marketing.
Hey Reader,
You know that time SpongeBob got stuck in Rock Bottom?
This is the story of the time that kinda almost happened to me.
In 2012, I studied abroad in Barcelona.
Mind you, this was before I’d ever owned a smartphone. While my parents were ready to go all Liam Neeson in their own version of Taken, I was a classic (at the time undiagnosed ADHD) 20-year-old: delusionally unconcerned about where I was in time or space 🙃
So tranquila, in fact, that one evening not long after arriving in Spain, this certified Sleepy Girl™ I fell asleep on the night bus.
I snoozed as the bus let off passengers at my stop…
I dreamed as we passed my apartment…
I snored as we rolled closer to the edge of town…
…I only woke up as we approached the last stop before heading to another town: Badalona. My one brain cell that had come online thought, Oh no. Badalona? That sounds… bad.
Bikini Bottom = Barcelona
Rock Bottom = Badalona
I looked up at a clock that said 5am. Several commuters in suits avoided eye contact, and I don’t even fault them. It was too early to deal with some American in last night’s eyeliner and *going-out top*
So I listened to my trusty brain cell:
I calmly got off at the next stop, like that was my intention all along.
And I started running in the opposite direction.
Surely if the bus was headed to Badalona, Barcelona must be the other way, right? And running = faster, duh.
Basically, I was trying to physically rewind the tape on this little detour and end up in my bed instead of the bad place.
So there I was sprinting down the sidewalk at dawn. Pleather jacket pockets jangling with my probably-dead brick phone, a digital camera that would later be stolen (to no one’s surprise), house keys, the works.
But listen, Reader, give my brain cell some credit. It actually pulled through.
On my morning run (💁♀️), I managed to find a stop for a bus that’d take me home. As I climbed aboard and watched the sun rise over my new city, I caught my breath, and you know what I felt?
Proud of myself for pulling that off.
That story came to mind recently because it sort of epitomizes how business ownership can feel, especially lately.
Like everyone around you has it all together, while you’re just trying to ride out all the unexpected turns the year has taken.
Then you blink and it’s November.
But buckle up because it’s not too late to pull off a profitable Black Friday / Cyber Monday offer.
Two options for you:
1. Right now, you can book 1 VIP Day, and get 1 free.
Need a fast Black Friday email sequence, or want to book my time to help you map out a Q1 launch plan? A VIP Day is a full day on my calendar where I can knock out a copywriting or marketing strategy task.
You can use your days back-to-back or space them out. Just book before November 30 and lock in two full days of my marketing and copy brain for the price of one.
2. Today’s Lift gives you a rapid-fire strategy to DIY your Black Friday promo. Scroll to check it out below.
The Warmup
One easy desk stretch
Wrist release (for the click-fatigued among us):
Stretch one arm out in front of you, palm facing out like you’re about to high-five a wall.
Rotate your hand so your fingers point toward the floor.
Use your other hand to gently pull your fingers back toward you.
Hold for a few seconds. Breathe.
Repeat on the other side.
The Lift
One insight to stretch your email ROI
Want a quick setup for Black Friday profits? Your rapid-fire strategy:
This week:
Send an email to warm up your list and tease the offer. Give value, instill trust, and remind them how you help. If you send a newsletter, keep teasing this offer even casually, like in a P.S.
Next week:
Break down the offer, who it’s for, what they’ll get, and why they should snag it on Black Friday. Share how long it’ll be running so they know to act fast.
Black Friday week:
Send your official sales email with a strong CTA. Make it skimmable and benefits-first, and resend to non-openers. Ideally, you’d send more, including a short email to announce when the offer’s ending. But something is better than nothing if you’re strapped for time.
Questions? Reply and ask away. Black Friday can feel icky, but people are in a buying mood and expect deals this time of year. I’d love to help you win too!
The Cooldown
One quick brain breather

Incoming Black Friday offers. I’m sending a couple extra emails this week about my Black Friday offers. If you don’t want those emails, click here to opt out. I’m surprised at myself this year. Your 2-minute stretch break for better email marketing. Hey Reader, Last Saturday, a chocolate croissant almost brought me to tears. Fresh out of the oven. Soft on the inside, crispy bite on the outside. Just enough warm chocolate to balance out the layers of pastry. I'm not normally a big food person, but this thing was so good I actually couldn't hold a conversation. It made me think about how many things we consume that are just... fine. The dry muffin you grab just to eat something. The...
